Don't Be Alarmed When You Hear The Howitzers

The sound of cannon fire is not something that typically echos through the East Bay. Here's what's going on.

HAYWARD, CA - Hayward police are advising community members not to be alarmed by the planned firing of howitzer cannons to mark the start of the Bay Area Military Classic golf tournament this morning.

The fundraising tournament, taking place at the TPC Stonebrae golf course in the Hayward hills, will tee off at 11 a.m. after the firing of blanks in the cannons, according to police.

Police wrote in a statement that the "explosion of the firing of the howitzers is expected to be loud and heard far and wide."
