Snake Left Behind In Rental Car

Thank goodness it was found! Can you imagine being the next person to rent the car?

OAKLAND, CA — An Oakland International Airport car rental employee found more than the typical discarded maps, water bottles and trash in a car that was returned — a five-foot-long boa constrictor. The rental car company did the sensible thing and called for backup.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office had some fun with their little charge. They posted on social media —Before you return your rental car remember:

  • Luggage
  • Phone
  • Keys
  • 5’ Boa Constrictor

And clever Facebook readers had just as much fun with their responses. Elizabeth Claire wondered, "Was the car a Dodge Viper?" JeanMarie Mead chimed in, "Wow, could have been someone's 'therapy pet'...not." But a sympathetic Lynn Goesch Groff added, "Awwww! Glad the poor guy was found before getting too hot in the car!"

The sheriff's office says many people have reached out hoping to adopt the poor creature. If the owner is not found, the snake will be put up for adoption.
