Walnut Creek Boy Abandoned In LA Last Week

His mother has been arrested and charged with abandoning the boy who is deaf, does not speak, and is possibly Autistic.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A Walnut Creek woman has been arrested and charged with felony child endangerment for allegedly abandoning her 6-year-old son at Union Station in Los Angeles on the Fourth of July. Dava Denise Webster, 31, is facing up to six years in prison if convicted, prosecutors said.

Webster allegedly abandoned the boy, who is deaf and does not speak even by sign language. At the time, authorities said he could be Autistic.

The little boy was spotted by witnesses and a security guard. Authorities did not received any reports of missing children fitting his description. The boy accepted food and water from officers. LAPD Lt. Leonard Perez told the media, "He's cute. He's clean. He belongs to somebody. He obviously didn't get here by himself."

Security photos showed the mother walking with the boy at Union Station, and then leaving by herself.

After an appeal that received widespread attention in the media, someone who recognized the boy came forward and he was reunited with his family last Thursday. Webster was taken into custody that day.
