Citing Health Reasons, Moraga Town Council Member Resigns

The town council will decide whether to appoint a successor or hold a special election.

LAMORINDA, CA — Jeanette Fritzky, elected to the Moraga Town Council in November 2016, is stepping down from her seat as she battles stage-four lung cancer, according to a letter she posted on the town's website.

"I find that I no longer have the energy, will or commitment to do something I used to revere," the 63-year-old Fritzky said in her resignation letter.

Her last day on the council will be Aug. 22. There is a council meeting that night, but Fritzky said in her letter that she wouldn't attend.

The Moraga Town Council will, at its Aug. 22 meeting, discuss whether to appoint someone to fill out the remaining two years of Fritzky's term, or to call for a special election to choose her successor.
