McDonald's New Uniforms Draw Comparisons To Star Wars On Social Media

Social media users are skewering McDonald's new uniforms with comparisons to science fiction flicks Star Wars and Hunger Games.

OAK BROOK, IL — McDonald’s new uniforms are a part of the fast food company’s recent push to change its brand, but many customers think the stark black and gray uniforms are a little too out of this world. Social media has been abuzz since McDonald’s announced the new uniforms, with many comparing the design to costumes on Star Wars and Hunger Games.

The uniforms are the brainchild of celebrity designer Waraire Boswell, who has dressed the likes of Will Smith, Pharrell Williams and Ellen Degeneres. The design of the new McDonald's uniforms are such a strong departure from the early, more colorful red and yellow uniforms and later the black polo shirts that customers have come to associate with the fast food company.

Social media users say the new uniforms remind them of something out of a dystopian science fiction film or the imperial officers from Star Wars. Just try to imagine Ronald McDonald in Darth Vader getup, or perhaps Grimace as Jabba the Hut.

McDonald’s new uniforms are among several recent updates to help the long-time fast food giant to bounce back from faltering stock in a market that’s increasingly challenging for former bastions of the fast food industry. The company also recently hired a “storytelling team” to help with re-branding that included a recent addition of Minute Maid Slushies at McDonald’s and a collaboration with UberEats to offer food delivery. Time will tell if the new uniforms help to recreate McDonald’s as a...force...to be reckoned with in the fast food world.

What do you think of the new McDonald’s uniforms? Do you think they're drab or are you "lovin' it?"
