Sexual Predator Targets 12-Year-Old Girl Via Open First-Floor Window: Chicago Police

CHICAGO - Police are urging residents to be vigilant after a sexual predator reportedly reached through an open window last week to assault a 12-year-old girl.

The incident occurred on April 25 in the 6100 block of South Evans Avenue, according to a Chicago Police Department community alert.

In it, police said, "An unknown male reached into an open, first-floor window and (tugged on the shirt) of a 12-year-old girl while trying to capture a photo of (her) with his cellular phone."

The victim reportedly screamed and alerted her mother, who then called the cops. The offender had already fled eastbound on foot.

Police say the offender was a Black man who has large brown eyes. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, the community alert said.

Anyone with informaiton about the suspect, or the incident, should call the Chicago Police Department's Special Investigation's unit at 312-492-3810 and provide reference JA-238076.

In the wake of the report, authorities want residents to remember to:

• Call 911 to report any suspicious persons or activity in your area.
• Instruct children to immediately report any suspicious activity to an adult.
• Make sure that windows and doors are locked at night when you go to bed.
• Ensure that sensor lights or other lights outside your residence are in working order.
• Call 311 to report any street light outages near your residence.
