Portillo's Home Delivery Could Become a Real Thing

Portillo's, based in Oak Brook, has begun testing food delivery at select locations across the U.S.

OAK BROOK, IL — Plenty of Portillo’s customers have been stuck in the torturous dilemma of having to decide whether to silence a powerful craving for a juicy Italian beef by driving to Portillo’s and waiting in line or staying safe and sound at home and pretending a lunchmeat sandwich is a convincing alternative. What’s a diner to do? Enter Portillo’s delivery service. The Oak Brook-based restaurant chain is currently testing out door-to-door delivery at select locations in the hopes of launching it to all their stores.

Portillo’s is testing delivery in Chicago’s River North neighborhood and at locations in Phoenix and Tampa. If the testing goes well, Portillo’s will add delivery at all its stores throughout the U.S., CEO Keith Kinsey said at the 8th Annual Food Industry Conference, according to Crain’s.

NBC 5 Chicago reports that the Portillo’s food delivery will be part of a partnership with Grubhub and Olo Dispatch, another delivery service. Customers will be able to order through the Portillo’s app and enjoy their favorite slice of chocolate cake without leaving the house.

Portillo's also recently announced plans to open more restaurants in Indiana, Maryland and Florida. They're also running a photo contest on social media with a grand prize of free Portillo's for a year.

Here’s hoping the trial goes well and Portillo’s nationwide delivery arrives right on time.
