United Airlines' Cockpit Door Access Info May Have Been Made Public

The airline says it has procedures in place to keep the cockpits on its flights secure.

United Airlines has learned that some cockpit door access information may have been made public, the airline said in a statement. However, the airline says it has a protocol in place that ensures the cockpits on its flights remain secure.

"The safety of our customers and crew is our top priority and United utilizes a number of measures to keep our flight decks secure beyond door access information," United spokeswoman Maddie King said in an emailed statement.

"In the interim this protocol ensures our cockpits remain secure."

A bulletin obtained by CNN sent to the airline's pilots warns them that "flight deck access procedures may have been compromised."

King said United is working to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

Technical glitches among airlines are not uncommon, though in the recent past any such IT issues have had to do with passengers not being allowed to board flights due to systems being down or connectivity problems. In January, United was forced to ground all domestic flights due to a nationwide technical glitch. In October, a computer glitch the airline experienced with its luggage-weight reporting system, delayed flights across the globe. Other airlines have also experienced similar technical problems in the past.

United Airlines and United Express operate approximately 4,500 flights a day to 337 airports across five continents, the airline states in its company overview.
