Woman Charged In Morgan Park SUV Tree-Ramming Murder

Murder charges filed against woman accused of pinning the daughter of a Chicago police officer against a tree and striking her with SUV.

CHICAGO, IL -- A 24-year-old Chicago woman accused of ramming into another woman with her vehicle while pinned against a tree in the Morgan Park neighborhood has been charged with first-degree murder.

Chynna Stapleton was arrested late Friday evening in the 100 block of West 115th Street by 5th District police officers after she was identified as the driver of a 2002 Jeep Liberty. Stapleton alleged used her SUV to strike an 18-year-old woman around 11:10 p.m. in the 11400 block of South May Street.

Stapleton and the younger woman, identified as Tatyanna Lewis, had reportedly been arguing over social media about a “personal relationship." Lewis is the daughter of a Chicago police officer, according to the Sun-Times.

Police said Stapleton pushed the younger woman into a tree, then rammed into her. A child was said to be in the back seat of the SUV at the time of the purported incident. Stapleton fled the scene, striking several vehicles.

An autopsy revealed that Lewis died of blunt force injuries caused by a motor vehicle, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.

Stapleton is due in bond court Monday afternoon at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building at 26th and California.
