Strong Storms Rip Through Chicago Area: UPDATE

Strong wind gusts are expected with the storms. A tornado watch remains in effect for some counties through 1 a.m.

A tornado watch has been issued for counties in the Chicago area through 1 a.m. Kane, Kendall, Lake and McHenry counties are currently under a tornado watch as fast-moving storms moved through the Chicago area late Wednesday night.

A tornado warning was issued for McHenry County at about 10:30 p.m., but no damage or tornado sightings were reported as of 10:45 p.m. when the warning was cancelled, WGN News meteorologist Tom Skilling reported.

Meanwhile, a severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Kane, McHenry and Kendall counties. The storms could bring very strong winds. The storms could cause considerable tree damage and damage to mobile homes, roofs and outbuildings, according to the National Weather Service. Large hail is also possible.

Some of the strongest storms are expected to hit downtown Chicago between midnight and 1 a.m., according to Skilling.
