Former Moraga Councilwoman Jeanette Fritzky, 63, Dies

She stepped down from the Moraga Town Council in August as the disease progressed.

LAMORINDA, CA —Jeanette Fritzky, who stepped down from the Moraga Town Council in August as she fought lung cancer, succumbed Friday to the disease.

Assemblywoman Catharine Baker, R-Dublin, mentioned Fritzky's death Sunday in a tweet, and the Caring Bridge website also posted a notice of Fritzky's passing. She was 63.

Fritzky said in July she was stepping down. In a letter she posted on the town's website at that time, she said, "I find that I no longer have the energy, will or commitment to do something I used to revere."

She was elected to the Moraga Town Council in 2016. A longtime pharmaceuticals executive, she also was founder of CAPTURE Pharma Consulting, which she still headed up when she died.

She volunteered in a variety of capacities in her 15 years as a Moraga resident, including as a member of the town's parks and recreation commission.

Good friend Bobbie Preston of Moraga met Fritzky when she was tutoring an Afghan refugee who had been a pharmacist in his home country. Preston said Fritzky was soft-spoken, measured in her speech, thoughtful and deliberate.

"She was a very dignified woman, smart as all getout, charming," Preston said.

Fritzky, a diehard Oakland A's fan, was also deeply involved in local Cub Scout programs.

The Moraga Town Council has voted to appoint Renata Sos, a town planning commissioner from 2005 until 2007, to fill the remainder of Fritzky's term. Sos will be sworn in on Oct. 10.

Fritzky leaves behind her husband Bob and four adult children.

As per Fritzky's wishes, there are no immediate plans for memorial services other than a private family observance, Preston said.
