The training began in June but was suspended because of fire activity elsewhere in the state. Now, with cooler, wetter weather and shorter days approaching there is an opportunity to complete the training for personnel who did not take part last time.

The exercises are designed to promote interagency coordination and sharpen fire suppression skills under live-fire conditions. The exercise fires are set up within control lines and executed according to a strict “go, no go” checklist. The exercise will only be conducted if all safety measures are in place.

The exercise is being coordinated with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to ensure the size and timing of the fires will minimize smoke impacts on homes and smoke-sensitive sites.

Signs cautioning motorists and bicycles of the additional fire traffic and potential for reduced visibility along the roadway will be posted in in the area.
