Southeastern Guide Dogs Walkathons by the Numbers!

Ever wonder what it takes to put on such an event? Here's the breakdown by the numbers.

The Southeastern Guide Dogs’ biggest fundraiser of the year culminated on Saturday, March 9.

Broken up into three walks in Bradenton, Sarasota, and St. Petersburg Southeastern’s Walkathons brought supporters out in droves with their four-legged family members in tow. 

Here are some statistics of what went into putting on these fantastic fundraisers:

  • Number of Southeastern Guide Dogs Staff at the walks: 120
  • Number of Volunteers at the walks: 225
  • Number of Fundraisers: 1,583
  • Number of Fundraisers who created sitstaygive.org pages: 878
  • Number of Tents: 26
  • Length of each walk: 3K
  • Number of food vendors/trucks: 8
  • Pounds of BBQ Chefs Rob & Angel cooked: 65
  • Number of raffle prizes: 3 (including the $10,000 grand prize)
  • Number of raffle tickets sold: 15,898
  • Amount spent in Gift Shops at the walks: +$13,000
  • Number of golf carts on site: 10
  • Number of bottles of water: 3,960
  • Number of buckets for dog water: 90
  • Number of days planning Walkathon: 363 (planning starts the Monday after the walk with a debriefing meeting)
  • Number of people at 2012 Walkathon: ~4,000
  • Number of people at this year’s walks: 7,200
  • Number of dogs at this year’s walks: ~4,000
  • Number of “Top Dog” Fundraisers (raised at least $1,000): 87
  • Amount raised by “Top Dog” Fundraisers: $228,311
  • Total amount raised from everyone’s stellar efforts: +$500,000

It is all thanks to the generosity of the community and participation at events like Walkathon that allows Southeastern Guide Dogs to continue to produce the finest guide dogs and provide all their services at no charge.
