Howell High School To Offer International Baccalaureate Diploma

The international baccalaureate is offered by just 17 schools in New Jersey, including Freehold Township High School.

HOWELL, NJ — Howell High School has joined a small group of New Jersey high schools that now offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, the Freehold Regional High School District announced.

Howell High School joins Freehold Township High School, which also has received authorization to become an IB World School.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a two-year course of study in the junior and senior years "that provides students with an academically challenging and interdisciplinary course of studies, and also prepares students for a rapidly evolving, increasingly global, society," the district announcement said.

In addition to courses from six core subject groups, IB Diploma students also engage in the DP core, which prompts students to "reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research, and undertake a project that often involves community service," according to the International Baccalaureate Organization. "The IB prepares students to succeed in a world where facts and fiction merge in the news, and where asking the right questions is a crucial skill that will allow them to flourish long after they’ve left our program," the website said.
