Arrest in Radio Shack Burglary

The 28-year-old suspect was arrested in 2011 for stealing from the same store. Police found fingerprints that linked him to the latest incident.

A 28-year-old Sarasota man has been arrested in connection to a March 13 burglary of the Radio Shack, 3333 North Tamiami Trail.

According to the Sarasota Police Department, officers were summoned to the store initially when an alarm was trigger at 3:43 a.m.

The suspect was gone and had taken an LED Toshiba Television and an Apple USB cable, according to a police statement. A storefront window was discovered lying in one piece inside the store and another window was still in place but cracked.

A surveillance video tape showed the suspect placing his hands on the glass of the store and looking in, prior to the break-in, according to police.

Cubbage also had been seen by police in the area of the Radio Shack the night before the incident.

An officer also talked to Cubbage, who was standing across the street from the store, the day after the burglary.

The officer had noticed that Cubbage was wearing a black leather jacket, which fits the description of the suspect seen in the surveillance video.

Cubbage was arrested in October 2011 for burglarizing the same store and stealing a television set, similar to this case.

Anyone with information regarding this burglary or Jody Cubbage should contact Detective Montegna at (941) 954-7092.
