Possible Thunderstorms, Moderate Heat Risk In Phoenix This Weekend

There is a chance of thunderstorms all weekend in Phoenix, as well as blowing dust and heat risk for those without air conditioning.

PHOENIX, AZ — The National Weather Service is warning Phoenicians of possible thunderstorms and blowing dust throughout the weekend in the Valley.

There is also a moderate heat risk to those without air-conditioning, especially if they don't drink enough water.

Each evening this weekend there is a 20-50 percent chance of thunderstorms in the Phoenix area, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service forecast a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms Friday and Saturday nights, with a 50 percent chance on Sunday night.

The expected highs on Saturday and Sunday were 108 and 106 degrees, respectively with overnight lows in the upper 80s. Those warm overnight lows add to the heat risk for those who don't have air conditioning or who are unsheltered, the weather service advised.

An ozone pollution air quality alert is in effect for Maricopa County through Sunday. A decrease in outdoor activity is recommended for children, older adults and people with respiratory illnesses.
