Coroner IDs Hainesville Man, 18, Killed In Fatal Shooting

The man fatally shot over the weekend at an apartment complex in Waukegan has been identified as Michael Reed, Jr.

WAUKEGAN, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified the 18-year-old Hainesville man fatally shot at an apartment complex in Waukegan over the weekend as Michael Reed, Jr.

Results from an autopsy Monday shows Reed died from a gunshot wound to the back, according to a news release from the coroner's office.

Authorities say Reed died at a hospital on Sunday following the Saturday night shooting at an apartment complex in the 500 block of South Genesee Street in Waukegan. Police were called to the apartments at about 9 p.m. for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found numerous spent shell casings and a firearm.

A short time later, officers were informed that a shooting victim had been dropped off at an area hospital with serious injuries. It was later learned that the victim, who was later identified as Reed, was shot at the Waukegan apartment complex, according to a news release.

Police are continuing to investigate the shooting, and no one is currently in custody in connection with the shooting, authorities said Tuesday. Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to contact the WPD tip line at 847-360-9001.
