Grayslake North Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

The group of semifinalists represents less than 1 percent of all students across the United States.

According to the National Merit Scholarship news release, 95 percent of semifinalists will advance to the finalist stage of the competition and about 50 percent of finalists will receive scholarships and earn a merit scholar title.

GRAYSLAKE, IL — Two Grayslake high school students have been named semifinalists in the prestigious National Merit Scholarship program.

The semifinalists are picked based on preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test scores and represent less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors. The local students who have been named National Merit semifinalists are Grayslake North seniors Varun Gullapalli and Nathan Gulliver.
