CARLSBAD, CA — After four decades in the weight loss and management business, Jenny Craig will close its doors, according to internal documents obtained by NBC News.

The company, which is headquartered in Carlsbad, told workers in an email late Tuesday it would close "due to its inability to secure additional financing," according to the report. Tuesday was the last day for center workers who are hourly, while Friday is the last day for corporate and field employees who are salaried, the news outlet reported.

Jenny Craig has roughly 500 company-owned and franchised locations across the country, including 68 locations in California:

Some franchises have decided to keep their doors open. According to Palm Desert Jenny Craig franchise owner Patti Powers, the clinic will stay open for its 200 clients.

"If clients want to order food they can call or come in for an appointment. We've been down this road before, but we are open and can support our clients, that's all I care about," Powers told Patch. "Our phone has been ringing off the hook all morning. We're taking it day by day. We're calling and confirming appointments."
