Goran Visnjic Reflects on Timeless Cancelation

After a relatively well-received first season and a strong viewer-base, Goran Visnjic's Timeless gets canceled.

This has been a tough day for fans of NBC’s time-travel drama ‘Timeless’. Even though this show had everything going for it, and managed to attract a loyal fan base in a short amount of time, still the network executives’ decided that the series will not be returning for a second season. Once the news got out, the show’s heroic trio and the series villain played by Goran Visnjic, used social media to reflect their thoughts on the cancellation.

The time-travel fantasy debuted back in October and has been off the air since February. The 16-episode first season was produced by Sony Pictures Television and it aired on NBC every Monday at 10 PM after The Voice. The executives gave Timeless this great time slot, showing their high hopes for the series, which was eventually backed down by strong reviews and a quickly established loyal viewership. The show’s cancellation was a surprising move for everyone. Goran Visnjic, one of the series lead actors received the heartbreaking news while he was away from the country, shooting a feature film and series in his home country Croatia. The rest of the cast was also puzzled by this decision.

Timeless started off well in the ratings and turned out to be NBC’s number 6-rated drama. For the series premiere, over 7.6 million viewers tuned in and watched how Goran Visnjic, or better said the Flynn, the mysterious criminal, steals a secret state-of-the-art time machine. During its freshman run, the series lost significant viewership. The show’s season finale had around 4.6 million viewers. Now that the series is canceled, the show’s season 1 finale can end up being the series finale.

In an exclusive phone interview with Goran Visnjic we learned that because season one ended on a cliffhanger, the second season was supposed to offer more clarity. The actor even showed his support for the series on Instagram. But now that NBC has canceled the time-traveling drama, it’s possible that fans will never find out. All in all, Timeless was well-received, but despite the positive reviews and dedicated following, there’ll be no chance for a second run. Even USA TODAY's Save Our Shows poll, chose Timeless as the top pick for renewal, voted by fans, as the #RenewTimeless campaign attracted serious fan interest. But neither of these things could help Timeless land a new season. Currently, the only chance for its reviving the series is getting transferred to a different network or streaming platform.
